What to believe (piano version)
by Steven Clotzman

Has it really been that long since we first held each tight?
And are we now beyond the whispered nothings in the night
Shaken like the leaves off from the trees?
And we’re not even sure what to believe

I remember music playing in the city’s open square
All the kids came out hoping to find their true love there
We kissed until the morning set us free
Now we’re not even sure what to believe

What to believe despite our yesterdays
That it’s clear something’s tugging at our hearts
What to believe when there’s little more to say
But maybe we’d be better off apart

I’ve heard all those clichés about what’s wasted on the young
And maybe if we had more sense we’d know what’s done is done
And even if that’s just a matter of degree
It’s like we’re not even sure what to believe

What to believe despite our yesterdays
That it’s clear something’s tugging at our hearts
What to believe when there’s little more to say
But maybe we’d be better off apart

What is it that can set a man a drift in memories?
At the simple mention of a phrase like “nothing’s free!”
When he knows well the patterns that he weaves
And we’re not even sure what to believe
