The way things go
by Steven Clotzman

See that cloud hanging over me
Is all I now count on
‘Cause I lost the ray of sunshine
Since you’ve not up and gone
I don’t you took my dough
The bank account was running low
I guess that’s just the way it sometimes goes

When I met you at the airport
You gave a heavy sigh
You said, I‘m going need a bite to eat
Before I say goodbye
The days will pass, the wind will blow
The nights alone you’ll never know
I guess that just the way things sometimes go

I’ve run around this country
From Oregon to Maine
But every kiss in Portland
Ain’t the same

You said you’re longing for a place
Where folks still practice what they preach
‘Cause everything we used to know
It seems so out of reach
I take my time going to and fro
Try not to hang my head too low
But I guess that just the way things sometimes go

I’ve been around the world
From Portugal to Spain
But every kiss in Paris
Ain’t the same

I know the tide is rising
‘Cause my feet are soaking wet
But I can’t for the life of me
Remember to forget
I take my licks like any Joe
I accept the things that I can’t know
I guess that just the way things sometimes go

And you’re not as fast as I am slow
Still it all adds up to a big zero
I guess that just the way things sometimes go
