These few words
by Steven Clotzman

I was thinking about you just the other day
We were walking through the garden where we played
And I couldn’t help but wonder what you’d do or even say
If you came to learn of this applause
But the message in the silence should be clear
I go on and on but still you are not here
And despite all that you lived for things are just as they appear
Down in the merry old Land of Oz
As I stand before the law
And a kiss decides my fate
And these beggars, they can’t find their tears
But the high priest, he's got faith
And I've got these few words that I can’t fake.
Oh, what else will it take?

It seems to me to be so damn absurd
To speak of this without saying the word
But that’s not the only riddle that has left my mind a blur
I guess every poet has his or her own way
But who has time for similes and rhymes
When digging at the earth hungry and blind
And if I sound a little maudlin, don’t you pay it any mind
Everyone’s entitled an off day
I wish there was some other way
As a kiss decides my fate
And the beggars, they can’t find their tears
But the high priest, he's got faith
And I've got these few words that I can’t fake.
Oh, what else will it take?

Last night I dreamed that I had it was me that slipped away
And you were left damned to live out these days
They tell me I’m a fool but that’s OK
Soon the lions and lambs will both be tamed

There are times I’m sure you’re just outside the door
Or I’ll imagine that you’re moving across the floor
You know it’s hard to know just what to put my faith in anymore
When my mind begins to run
But that doesn’t mean I’m not willing to try
To pass these days without understanding why
‘Cause at night I watch the stars as they shoot across the sky
It clear to me some things can’t be undone
Like the blinding of the sun
As a kiss decides my fate
And the beggars, they can’t find their tears
But the high priest, he's got faith
And I've got these few words that I can’t fake.
Oh, what else will it take?
