The light on low
by Steven Clotzman

If you wake in the morning
Fallen from once precious arms
To believe it’s a warning
That love will only do you harm
Stow away this sadness
Daddy’s love won’t come and go
In a world of madness
Mama will keep the light on low

If you find yourself longing,
Desperate and on the run
Or you feel not belonging
To anything or anyone
Put away the misgivings
That leave to feel alone
From the spirit of the living
Mama will keep the light on low

When the shadows grow nearer and it seems no one cares
Like the lines in mirror, they’ll be there

Should the force of this hour
Cause you to go without
Let these words, like a shower
Wash away your regrets and doubts
Look away from the reasons
That tell you that you’re far from home
For the heart there’s one season
Mama will keep the light on low

In the throes of self-pity the mind’s can be a brutal haze
Beyond the glare of the city, a billion stars blaze

When the feeling escapes you
Or draws you to pull away
Let the voices that shaped you
Guide you to much better days
Avoid the ways of the broken hearted
That take you where you shouldn’t go
Above the fray of the departed
Mama will keep the light on low

Stow away your sorrow
Daddy’s love won’t come and go
Not today or tomorrow
Mama will keep the light on low
