A few too many

A few too many windows and few too many doors
A few too many reasons for what the world is fighting for
I got a thousand charging elephants underneath my bed
A few too many carpenters banging in my head
I know I shouldn't be deluded by the tonic of my dreams
But loving you and missing you is as chronic as it seems
And remember how you said that we should live within our means
Well, I've had a few too many

A few too many promises, a few too many lies
A few too many memories clouding up the skies
I'm tired of the past but the future holds no sway
A few too many nights alone since you went away
You said it's not the disappointment that had my mind in such a blur
Just the universe expanding though into what you can't be sure
Still you're optimistic that they'll someday find a cure
But I've had a few too many

A few too many gamblers, a few too many cheats
A few too many strangers pass me on the street
I'm waiting for an answer that never seems to come
A few too many questions that got me on the run

A few too many puzzles, a few too many clues
A few too many whispers about what I say and do
I'm waiting for an answer that never seems to come
A few too many questions that got me on the run

A few too many shadows, a few too many ghosts
A few too many points of view about what I need most
I wake up in the morning, my head tied up in knots
A few too many empties now are all I really got
Others walk the straight and narrow but that's never served me well
Not like the slings and arrows called the sufferings of your spell
And when someone else will come alone, you can never tell
But I've already had a few too many
