Every song
by Steven Clotzman

Working on a different sort of ending
I got tripped up by a single word or two
Now I'm down here in this hole
Where I live by what I know
Singing every song like it’s for you

Running through a dozen years of nothing
Every stretch of memory leaves me blue
And all along the way
I keep the worst at bay
Singing every song like it’s for you

There are times I feel I'm close to getting somewhere
Other times it’s clear I have no clue
And if the truth be told
This story’s getting old
Sing every song like it's for you

Now who can say what makes the world so blue
That all we are is what we do

Living for a cause of my own making
Is like waiting for a train to roll on through
I can hear the whistle blow
But it never seems to show
While I’m singing every song like it’s for you

Met this girl who shook like California
And I asked here, you up for trying something new
She told me that she might
If I played my cards just right
No matter whom I’m singing to

Now who can say what makes the world so blue
That we become just what we do

Everyone, I know, has their own reasons
For all the foolish things we say and do
You said no one is to blame
Still it feels much the same
Singing every song like it’s for you
